Road Safety
Adjusting to conditions on the road
Winter roads
Clear all snow from the roof, lights, and windows before driving. Accelerate and brake gently, and keep a winter kit in the trunk.
Night driving
Dim the dashboard, avoid looking directly at oncoming headlights, and slow down so you can stop within the distance your lights reach.
Work zones
Merge early when signs tell you to, follow posted speed limits, and expect sudden stops and workers near the lane.
Rural highways
Watch for wildlife at dawn and dusk, pass only with a long clear view, and be ready for slow farm equipment.
Fatigue
Yawning, drifting, or missing exits are warning signs. Stop for a break every two hours on long trips.
Ownership and paperwork
Keep registration and your proof of insurance card current and in the car, and review your existing policy documents once a year so you understand what they say.
